Below are just a few of the students who’ve attended Jenny’s Internship Academy
Cassie Havill– I had the amazing opportunity to work beside Jenny Sherbo for nearly six years on a daily basis. Throughout that time I probably rode close one hundred horses, each one learning something new. Jenny taught me how to ride young horses, as well as show aged horses. She also gave me a great insight on the breeding industry and how to work with foals. I was able to go to numerous horse shows and sales with Jenny, which really let me grasp the life of a horse trainer. Her experience and passion gave me drive since the first day we met. Jenny has always strived to better her business and continues to educate herself in all facets of life. Not only is Jenny an incredible mom and wife, she is an inspiring horsewoman.
Kate Nestingen– My internship with Jenny Sherbo was without a doubt one of the best and most productive times in my life. After working with her I gained huge amounts of confidence, I now feel knowledgeable at every barn I’ve entered since. I can see what values each horse posses in a short amount of time as well as what would make it work or not work with certain people. Jenny gave me a standard that has taught me how to recognize and redirect any situation going bad, not just with horses but with people too. My favorite part about this internship was how much it taught me about life, people, and business, not just horses. She shares her knowledge and provided invaluable experience in an environment that left room for error but helped you strive for the best you could be. She never blamed or got mad when I’d make mistakes. She gave me hands on experience in many different realms of the horse world, from cutting to reining to barrels. She made sure to provide opportunities and encouragement to ask questions and be a part of what ever was going on when a professional came to the barn to work on a horse to float teeth, or do a vet check, etc. I met lots of great people and made many life long connections that could help me find a job or get a reference in what ever path I choose. As an intern I got to be part of a family, a business, and dream, I wouldn’t trade my experience with Jenny for the world. She will put tools in your tool box and a plan in your pocket that’ll help you build your dream. She taught me to work hard, dream big and ride it like I stole it, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to thank her enough for all the opportunities, lessons, wisdom and experience she gave me. I feel truly blessed to have gotten to be part of her team.
Brittany Butler– My internship with Jenny Sherbo was amazing. I am attending Black Hawk College in Galva, IL to study equine science and horse science and technology. Through this degree you get to have an 8 week work/ internship experience. Everyone can pick their own place to internship at. I choose Jenny Sherbo. When I got to the Sliding J Ranch I was 2,184 miles away from home. When Jenny pick me up to the ranch I got to meet the other intern named Kate Nestingen. After meeting Kate I felt at home. Between Kate and Jenny I felt so welcome and happy that I choose the Sliding J to be my 8 week internship. Jenny has an amazing program for the horses and her riders. What I loved most about jenny’s program that it was easy to learn. Her program never changes from horse to horse no matter if it is a 2 year old colt or a 15 year old show horse. This makes it easy to not get confused on what to do with each horse you ride from day to day. All of the horses I got to ride were truly amazing. Coming from a barrel racing background I really did know how to ride a reining or a cutting horse. Jenny helped me along and showed me that no matter the discipline of the horse they are all the same in a way. Jenny thought me a lot and not just about training horses. She thought me how to make boundaries with clients and how to go about saying you’re doing it all wrong in a way that the rider didn’t get upset. She would say “you need to us more inside left leg” when I know she really wanted to say “God gave you a left leg now use it like I’ve told you to a thousand times.” I also loved that Jenny never got mad. I wouldn’t be understanding the easiest things and she would just keep explaining it. She is a great people person. She thought me a lot about the breeding business, how to handle difficult clients, buying and selling horses, and much more. I can’t thank Jenny enough for all that she thought me. She has helped me to become a better rider and a much better horsewomen. This experience has helped not only me but my horse have more tools. I would recommend anyone to go to Jenny for an internship even if it is for 2 weeks or 6 months you will lean so much in your stay with her than you can ever imagine. Thank you jenny so much! You are a great horsewoman and an amazing mother.
Erin Adderley-My internship with Jenny Sherbo was absolutely amazing. I had a blast the whole time I was there and it was truly a life changing experience. I gained so much knowledge and got to ride so many great horses. It was a very hands on internship and I got the opportunity to learn many different aspects of the horse industry. I felt Jenny really invested in me as a person and helped me learn and grow every step of the way, as well as after I left. After leaving the internship I felt I had made life long friends and connections and was a more confident and skillful rider. Jenny gave me the tools to go out and be successful and I look forward to learning anything and everything I can from her in the future. If you truly want to make it in the horse industry and are ready to work hard and get the job done I highly recommend doing an internship with jenny sherbo. You won’t regret it.
McKenzie Baxter-My internship experience with Jenny was absolutely amazing! Jenny taught me so much about horsemanship and business and so many other things. While I was there I got to ride all kinds of different horses in many disciplines ranging from unbroken colts all the way to completely finished show horses. Through jenny I also got to meet some very successful and influential people in the horse industry and build relationships with them. Not only is Jenny an amazing mentor but I also feel like I’ve gained a life long friend. I truly believe this is a once in a life time opportunity and there is no other program out there better than Jenny’s.
Shannon Leveroni– My internship with Jenny Sherbo was an amazing experience that I could never replace. You not only gain horse experience, you gain life experience. You are pushed outside of your comfort zone and are tested mentally and physically. It is hard work, but very rewarding! You learn so much about yourself, in and out of horses, and the best part is that the people that you are surrounded by are all rooting for your success. You never know how much you don’t actually know until you get into a situation like this! I LOVE learning and there was non stop learning coming from Sliding J! Jenny is phenomenal to watch ride (I could watch her ride all day! So much to learn from watching) and she is an open book when it comes to teaching about horses. She doesn’t hide anything, she lays it all out there for you to learn from. I remember one of the things that stuck with me most from the internship was one day she told us if we thought riding was easy, we weren’t learning. She pushed us to have the bad days so we could make a break through to have an AMAZING day. Jenny teaches every aspect of the business. It was awesome to ride nice horses and meet successful horse people. She is an amazing mentor and I cannot thank her enough for all the experiences I have gained through my amazing internship. Thank you, Jenny, for all the lessons, experience and allowing me to be part of the team. The decision to do the internship was completely out of my comfort zone and probably one of the most random ways to stumble across the program, but I am glad I took that leap of faith and I recommend everyone else take that leap and have as amazing of a learning experience as I did.
